# NYEN transaction states

> One transaction state model for the wallet, the explorer and the API: Pending, PoW observed, Stake-assured, Confirmed, Settled. Settled is measured in work, not in block count.

| State | Rule | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | In a node's mempool | Under 250 ms |
| PoW observed | Miners are working on a template that includes it. Advisory only | Seconds |
| Stake-assured | A stake committee certificate covers it. A deeper PoW chain can reverse it | 2 s (p50), 5 s (p99) |
| Confirmed | In a NekoHash block | About 60 s |
| Settled | Work of 20 target-difficulty blocks on top of its block | About 20 min at steady hashrate |

- No state is final or irreversible. The node follows the chain with the most work; beyond 199 blocks a reorg warns, it never halts the node.
- PoW observed is not a confirmation.

## Block path

1. Found: the header hash falls under the target.
2. Announced: the header is pushed to peers without a request (`sendheaders`).
3. Rebuilt: short IDs, about 6 bytes per transaction, are matched against the local mempool. A missing transaction costs one extra round trip.
4. Checked: NekoHash in about 5 microseconds, then every consensus rule.
5. Connected: the same state on every node, with undo data kept.

## Difficulty

LWMA over the last 45 blocks. After 240 s without a block, the target eases every second until a miner finds one. Block time never goes below the parent block; the future limit is 60 s.
